Cudahy is a small city on Lake Michigan tucked between St. Francis and Oak Creek. It sits directly south of Bay View, and if you cannot afford Bay View or you priced out of it in the last five years, Cudahy is the very next place a lot of buyers look.
Packard Avenue is the main street. It has a small collection of independent bars, restaurants, and a live music venue (X-Ray Arcade) packed into a short stretch. Not as dense as Bay View's KK, but the same idea and slower on weeknights.
The east side of the city is defined by Sheridan Park, a Milwaukee County lakefront park with a bluff, a public pool, ballfields, beach access, and a trail that connects further up and down the shore. It is one of the better public lakefronts in the county for what you pay to live near it.
The housing stock is dense, older, and mostly pre-war. Bungalows, Cape Cods, and duplexes on gridded blocks. Not many yards to speak of, and driveways can be narrow, but the price point is one of the friendliest of any Milwaukee-adjacent city, and Mitchell Airport is a short drive west.
Cudahy is the honest south-shore neighbor to Bay View. It sits directly south of St. Francis on the lake, has a real main street along Packard Avenue, and a public lakefront at Sheridan Park that is one of the better county waterfronts for what it costs to live near it. The Cudahy buyers I meet tend to be first-time buyers or downsizers who want proximity to the lake at a friendlier price than Bay View can offer anymore.
The housing stock is dense, older, and mostly pre-war. Bungalows and Cape Cods on gridded blocks, small yards, narrow driveways. Not much room to spread out, but the neighborhood makes up for it with real community. Ask a Cudahy resident where they live and they will usually say Cudahy, not Milwaukee. That distinction says a lot about the place.
Cudahy rewards a slow tour, which is not the advice I give in every neighborhood. Walk Packard Avenue on a weekend, stop into Sheridan Park, drive the residential streets north of Layton and south toward St. Francis. The neighborhood feel does not show up on a listing photo.

What Cudahy costs right now
Zillow's home value index puts a typical Cudahy home at about $269,405 as of January 2026, up about 5 percent year over year. Cudahy is often the lower-priced neighbor to Bay View, and buyers who priced out of Bay View frequently end up looking here.

Not who "should" live here. Just what kind of daily life this place fits.
The honest tradeoffs
Older housing stock brings the usual honest list: aging sewer laterals, older electrical panels, and basements that were never really finished. Small lots and narrow driveways mean tight parking, especially in winter after the plows come through.
Cudahy has fewer high-end restaurants and shops than Bay View, and if you are used to Wauwatosa or Whitefish Bay village life, the density of restaurants and shops will feel thin. What Cudahy has instead is the price point, the lake, and a working-class neighborhood that has not been priced out of itself. That trade works for a lot of buyers.
